Bluebells, birdsong and bright young leaves are forming the backdrop to an extraordinary series of events in Boduan Sanctuary Wood over the first nine days of May – a Gwyl Gwanwyn (Spring Festival) of Artists in the Wood.

We started with a Dawn Chorus Walk to listen to birdsong in the wood at 5am on 1st May (recording below), our Gwyl Gwanwyn  features artists of all varieties (Ros Bissel, Pat Doorbar, Tina Holley, Annie Horsley, Gwen Pritchard Jones, Jill Teague, Marian Wagstaff & Su Walls),  who have been holding open workshops among the trees.  There has been an explosion of creativity inspired by Springtime in the Wood.

There were organised workshops every day, offering tuition and guidance in creative pursuits ranging from sculpture to singing.  Other workshops included poetry and print-making, and artists working with natural materials and vegetation found in the wood.  Click on the link for the Timetable of Events (see below) to get details of the workshops that were on offer. The event was part of a nationwide celebration of Springtime creativity sponsored by Age Concern and was enjoyed by all who attended.

If you missed the Festival but would like to visit the Wood and join our Events, why not consider coming to our Apple Pie Sundays? If you are of creative persuasion, you could always add your contribution to our Great Container Paint-In, which is still on-going.  Boduan Sanctuary Wood has paths suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, making the woodland accessible to all generations and people of all abilities.  And in case anyone needs to answer the call of nature, there is a wheelchair-accessible eco-toilet.

The Festival ended on Saturday 9th May with an Exhibition of Work and a Grand Finale which began with music from the North Wales Saxophone Choir.  There was communal singing, a performance of "Annie's Song" sung by Belinda Wain & accompanied on flute by Joanna Melville Richards and to finish there were readings of some of the poetry & creative writing that was inspired by the Festival - all washed down with Tea & Bara Brith!
